Since its formation in 1968, the band has been through various name changes such as the City of Gloucester Band, Hawthorn Brewery, Message Maker and more recently PolySteel.
The band achieved Championship status in 1986 and has maintained this position ever since to become one of Britain’s finest brass bands. Also in that year, the band attracted sponsorship from the well known local brewery Whitbread Flowers based in Cheltenham. Flowers Band has an enviable contest record, with accolades including five times West of England Champion, runner up at the All England International Masters, twice winner of the Grand Shield, third place at the English National Championships and six times winner of the South Somerset Entertainments Championships including a hat-trick of wins.
